Broad's Boost?

Major headlines in the art realm have involved philanthropists Eli and Edythe Broad contributing approximately $300 million of their own money toward a new museum in Downtown Los Angeles. Broad will oversee the first building in the long awaited Grand Avenue project, and is aiming to help transform downtown into a "vibrant center," as he put it to the Los Angeles Times, for the city's cultural community. The question is, will another museum in close proximity to the Music Center and MOCA help further develop the area into a bustling community for locals and tourists alike, or will it just be another institution scrambling amidst the seedy reputation downtown is trying to shed?
