Appropriately Lucio Fontana occupies our header, puncturing the beginning of Graphite‘s blog of Art Criticism! Fontana, one of the first to poke through the canvas as if it were a form of sculpture, worked throughout the 1950s and 60s. In his series Concetto Spaziale, Fontana produced works such as the one pictured above. Such works were part of his manifesto of Spazialismo (Spatialism). His works later proved to be profoundly influential to the generation of Arte Povera artists of the 60s.
